Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum that mops that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes.
